This Privacy Policy describes how PDF Genius ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares information about you when you use our website and services (collectively, the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to the practices described below.

1. Information we collect

We collect the minimum data needed to operate the Service:

Account data: name, email, and an encrypted password hash when you sign up.
Document data: PDFs you upload and the text extracted from them, used to generate summaries and answer your questions.
Usage data: counts of summaries and chat messages so we can enforce plan limits.
Cookies: a small set of strictly necessary cookies for authentication and an optional analytics cookie if you accept it (see Section 6).

2. How we use your information

Provide, maintain, and improve the Service.
Generate AI summaries and answer questions about your documents.
Enforce plan limits and prevent abuse.
Communicate with you about your account (e.g. verification, password resets).

3. AI processing

Document text is sent to AI providers strictly to generate the response you requested. We do not use your documents to train foundation models, and we instruct providers to do the same.

4. Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with infrastructure providers (hosting, database, AI inference) that process it on our behalf under written agreements.

5. Data retention

Documents and chat history are retained while your account is active. Deleting your account removes your documents, summaries, and chat history from our active database.

6. Cookies and analytics

We use strictly necessary cookies for sign-in. We use a privacy-friendly analytics tool that does not set tracking cookies and does not collect personal data; you can still opt out via the cookie banner.

7. Your rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (GDPR, CCPA, and similar) you have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Most of these can be performed in your account settings; for anything else, contact us.

8. Security

We protect data with TLS in transit, encryption at rest, role-based access controls, and row-level security in the database.

9. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 16. Do not use the Service if you are under 16.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by email or an in-product notice.
